Supporting Families in Need
At The Harley Jae Trust, we offer grants to support families caring for children with life-limiting conditions. These grants help cover essential costs, improve quality of life, and allow families to focus on caring for their children.
Comfort Fund
The £250 ‘Comfort Fund’ is designed to provide immediate financial relief to families who are facing extended stays in the Paediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU). When a child is admitted for six weeks or more, it can be an incredibly challenging time for families, both emotionally and financially. This fund is intended to help alleviate some of the unexpected expenses that arise during such prolonged hospital stays, such as meals, travel, and other day-to-day costs. By easing these financial burdens, the Comfort Fund allows families to focus more on being present with their child during this critical period, ensuring they can offer the emotional support that is so vital.
HJT Wish
The £500 ‘HJT Wish’ grant is a special fund aimed at helping families create positive memories after a difficult hospital stay. Following a child’s discharge from the PCCU after six weeks or more, families often need time to reconnect and heal. This grant can be used to fulfill a wish or create a meaningful experience for the family, such as a short holiday, a special day out, or any activity that brings joy and comfort. The HJT Wish is about giving families a chance to celebrate their resilience and spend quality time together in a way that’s meaningful to them.
Specialist Grants
The £1000 ‘Specialist Grant’ is available to families needing specialized equipment that is not covered by health or social care funding. Caring for a child with life-limiting conditions often requires specific medical or adaptive equipment to improve their quality of life, but not all of this equipment is eligible for public funding. The Specialist Grant helps bridge this gap, ensuring that families can access the tools and resources they need. Whether it’s a customized wheelchair, communication aids, or other essential devices, this grant empowers families to provide the best possible care for their child, without the financial strain.
Discretionary Fund
Our Discretionary funding provides flexible financial support for families facing unique or unforeseen challenges while caring for a child with life-limiting conditions. This fund can be used for various needs that may not fall under our other grants, such as unexpected travel costs for specialist appointments, emergency repairs at home, or any other critical expenses. The Discretionary Fund is there to offer peace of mind when unexpected financial burdens arise, allowing families to focus on what matters most—caring for their child. This fund will be considered by the Board dependant.
